On-Line Travel Journals or blogs

I like to keep on line travel journals and upload my pictures as I travel for my friends an family back home. I've tried the Canadian Hostelling EKit service and didn't like that one very much. I use wordpress.com now and it's OK.

If any of you use on on-line travel journal service or blog, I'm curious which ones you use and why. Thanks

Cheers,
Maggie

In the past I used blogger.com which has many features.
I prefer my own website because I can do anything I want plus the URL is short not something like: mytravels.blog.com

I use blogspot.
It is not as flexable as your own web site, but it is easy to use and with a little creativity can be somewhat unique. I also like that I can post documents. Check it out let me know what you think.

I use Ball of Dirt (www.ballofdirt.com). You can post pictures, maps, videos, whatever you want. The guys who run the site are always adding features and are very easy to contact and get help from if you have a problem. It's free, and they also offer things like printed books of your travel journal for purchase.

Hi Maggie

We have our own website and then we run a blog page within that, in the future we might link out to wordpress or blogspot (i;ve blocked names out through both options)

Our website is hosted through godaddy and you do have to pay

The address is below if you want to see what we did

ourpassportstamps.com

ourpassportstamps site is awsone! Not sure how much work it is to put it together, but it looks impressive.

I use mytripjournal.com. It does cost, but I find it easy to use and has all the bells and whistles I need - and some I have still to learn to use.

Merci!

It's been a labor of love.

Most of it is templates either through godaddy or my photo albums using smilebox.

last year I thought html meant hotmail..so it's been a slow process.
If I can do this, ANYONE can.

The only thing I needed help on was the feature in Karen's Cruise Corner or the Photo Section where you see 3 old vintage travel posters of the destination. If you exit out of the page and then go back in they randomly change to other posters..this is javascript and my husband did it for me.

One thing that was important to me and really limited our choices was I didn't want any advertising on our website. If this is a non issue for you then you will have more options.

Maggie, I love what you did with your blog and it has inspired me...so I don't think you need to change anything...but I know I've gone through thinking what more can I do, how can I improve..etc etc...

We have been using blogger for years, and if you know HTML and javascript you can do pretty much anything with it (keeping within the concept of a blog). Our travel blog is a stock template though as I didn't feel like messing around with it too much. Posting is very simple as well as uploading images.

We also use picasaweb for image hosting.

Thanks for your replies guys, I'll check out some of these other services.

BTW, ourpassportstamps.com and gadtravel.blogspot.com are awesome. I love the photo presentations at ourpassportstamps.com, with music and all. Fantastic.

Cheers,
Maggie

I'm gonna have to vouch for TravelPod.com because I work there.

I like it because you can update it from your mobile phone and you can also ask your visitors to donate to your travel fund.

Have a look at mine for an example: http://www.travelpod.com/members/starlagurl

If you decide to start your travel blog on our site, let me know!
