Thinking of going to Europe, France, Germany and Italy in July/Aug 2012. Wondering with the Olympics next year will the rest of Europe be expensive and busy?
Did USA get more expensive when Canada or Mexico had the games? Did it affect travel in USA? There should be no direct effect outside of Britain. Some increases in Britain near the dates and undoubtedly very high prices in London and close to London) during the games and a few days around them. There will probably be some additional travel in Europe for people who are in London for the Games but probably not much. We were in France and Germany when the World Cup was in Germany, and saw no effect in France - although German hotel prices were sky high during the World Cup and a very few days before and after
The Olympics will probably have an impact on transatlantic flights heading to Europe...not just London. The games will attract folks from all over the world, not all them will be taking direct flights to London. Some will be connecting via Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, NYC, Miami, Houston etc. It's gonna fill up airplane seats, and airlines will raise their fares. Same thing happened during the Germany World Cup 2006.
If you're not to be in Britain you won't see any effects at all.
