Oct/Nov 2025 Itinerary Help

Hello,

We are spending two weeks in Europe with friends (their second trip, our one of many). We have around 4 nights at the end, which would be the first week in November, and we need a few suggestions on what makes the most sense with the rest of our itinerary.

So far we have:
4 nights Venice
4 nights Ljubliana (with a day trip to Bled/Triglav and maybe Zagreb)
4 nights ??
Last night - Venice by the airport for 6 am flight

I was considering Salzburg or Innsbruck because we'll have a car and haven't been to Austria yet. Hubby wants to go to the Istrian peninsula or Bologna/Modena. While Italy is one of my favorite places on earth, I'm looking for more to do than eat and visit churches. We haven't been to the Bologna region, but we've done Tuscany extensively, Rome, Naples, Venice, Florence. Our friends are undecided at this point. Is there any place we aren't considering that would make more sense?

If you are not outdoorsy, I think you might be bored with Istria--everything I have planned when I get there will be focused on hiking, biking, swimming (and food). Zagreb might be more promising?
I'd take into consideration the long drive back and so would choose Innsbruck over Salzburg but I am unfamiliar with Austria.
I know I would be delving into the small towns -- are the mountains appealing to your group?

I love the mountains, but none of us are serious hikers (more like maybe a few hours, no crazy equipment). We were worried about it being cold/snowy at that time of year and making travel (and being outside) more difficult. I'd love to hike in the Dolomites, but it shuts down well before then (at least for what I want to do). I think my husband saw Roman ruins in Pula and that was his deciding factor, but that doesn't make for 4 nights worth of sightseeing.

It might be truffle season in Istria, so could be a good time to be there, or not at all! But yes other than the Pula amphitheater, it is all about villages and nature.
Emilia Romagna would probably be ideal.
