OBB Nightjet Issues

Hi... I need help solving a problem. I booked myself, my mom and my husband on an OBB nightjet train from Munich to Rome for 22 Sept. Except there was a service connection issue and the site booked it for 22 June for my husband and myself and 23 September for my mom. I am trying to have it corrected but to no avail so far. in the meantime, I was just going to attempt to reserve another set of tickets, {mom wants sleeper cars} but the OBB site says they are all sold out of rooms. The day we are to leave Bavaria, we are seeing the Hohenschwangu and Neushwantstein Castles and were going to head back to Munich to catch the Nightjet south. Does anyone have any other suggestions of how to get from Munich to Rome that doesn't involve flying?

Thank you

And the benefit of the daytime trains is the stunning views of the Alps.

I don't know anything about booking sleeper trains and I have several friends who glory in the minutiae of planning their excursions down to the hour and dollar. Just my opinion, of course, this is one of the major reasons I rely on my friend, an agent in the travel business, to handle all the complex stuff for me. She makes sure I've got plenty of time, never need to rush to make a connection, has contingencies planned, and knows how to deal with scheduling screwups.

For instance, in this situation, after a day of castles, she would have me spending the night locally, boarding the train at a decent hour the next day, arriving in Rome, probably quite late, with arrangements to have me delivered to my hotel or have me totally briefed on how to walk, tram, or taxi to it.

Anyway, hope you get it figured out, still plenty of time to find alternatives and to negotiate with the OBB. Please update the forum as your situation changes.

I checked Rome2Rio and good news, there is a night bus!!! 11.5 hours on a bus, Ugh!! The night train is 13 hours, but maybe you could sleep, and it does get in at a decent time 9:10 am (but then you have to store your luggage). Drive it in 9 hours but then you have the "return in a different country" issue. I really like what Nigel, Badger and Bogiesan suggest. The day train would be like a scenic train ride. Start with a nice breakfast in Munich, pack a nice lunch for the ride and you are in Rome by 18:00 to check in to your hotel and have dinner. The Alps will be beautiful, then you get to roll through Tuscany. Unfortunately, it does eat up most of 1 day, you can't get around the math, rate x time = distance!!!

I think you are right, Badger. The views all the way to Verona are pretty decent.

And then continuing down to Rome it isn't bad either.

If you still want to stick with Nightjet email them, they were very responsive to me when I had an issue. Maybe they can help reroute or provide another option. They have an email contact on their site
