Thank you Rebecca. I saw the first rebuilding Notre Dame and just learned through this forum, that they are following the entire building process! Can’t wait! Oh and we enjoyed the Secrets of the Dead episode on Notre Dame as well!

Hi Tammy! I'm looking forward to watching both programs! They should be excellent, which is why I wanted to alert forum members that they would be on.

For anyone who missed it like I did, it's on again at 11:00 AM on Sunday - at least here in Oregon.

Well, the person that generally controls the TV opted for the Saturday Night Live special of past Christmas shows. I'm glad I have PBS passport and just watched it streaming on my iPad Mini!

I feel like I might have seen at least some segments before? I remember the scenes where the timber faller points to where he is going to fall the tree and then does it, lol.

I still enjoyed it, especially the close up views of the stained glass!

It was great, and now I know I'll have to return to Paris after 2024 (if I can still get around) to see the restoration. The glimpses of the two restored chapel ceilings were the tipping point for me. And the material on the stained glass, the salt going through the limestone vaults, and the medieval use of staples was fascinating.

I'm so glad they decided to rebuild as it was before, instead of a new design. I like a lot of the juxtaposed styles (like the Louvre pyramid), but there's no certainty that something will work well. And a redesign would have taken much longer, first to debate (endlessly) whether to do it, then to debate (endlessly) over alternatives, then to do the actual work. Still, I'll be amazed if this project is really finished in time for the Olympics. Thanks again, PBS.

I think I saw a lot of this on a Lucy Worsley BBC special but I still enjoyed it.

Dick, I'm with you...well, Paris IS my favorite place but yes, for sure will visit then. I thought the medieval staples were really interesting and so cool that they are learning so much about their building methods.

I love Lucy (hahaha) and I know Rebecca does as well so I'll have to look for a Lucy special on Notre Dame.

Pam, I love Lucy, too! (LOL) Any show done by Lucy Worsley is great.

Hey everyone! I'm glad you've enjoyed these programs.

Another program coming up on PBS that you may enjoy is Lucy Worsley's 12 Days of Tudor Christmas. It airs in my area on Dec. 20, at 8 PM Central time. Check your local listings for this one, or watch using Passport.
It's a repeat, as our local PBS station shows it every Christmas.

It's a great explanation of some of our Christmas traditions that originated in Tudor England.
Most enjoyable!

I will post this again as a topic in the England forum.

Thanks Rebecca. Nice reminder since we missed it last year. Our Seattle KCTS viewer guide has it slated for 12/20 @9pm. Looking forward to it!

Janis, it's a great show, as are all of Lucy's shows!

Especially shocking: the Mummers.
Not what you'd expect for Christmas.

Interesting about the Mummers....my favorite UK author, Trisha Ashley has a couple of her light romance books that feature special local celebrations either on the Winter Solstice or on 12th night or at Christmas and all include some Mummers.

Pam, very interesting, about the Trisha Ashley books mentioning the Mummers!
In Tudor times, they were people dressed in costumes, with masks, who came to your house in groups to engage you in a game of dice or cards. They insisted that you bet money, which you then lost, because the games were always "fixed" with weighted dice, trick cards or whatever. They left your house with your money.
Not a very nice Holiday tradition!
