I would love suggestions: I need to end up in Girona Spain, but am able to travel for about a week before. I am not sure where I should go! This will be one of my first times traveling alone (I'm a young woman), so I want to stick to fairly safe places. I adore art and food and antiques! I want to be as frugal as is practical. I thought about flying into Germany and making my way to Spain, but is that too much to traverse and enjoy in a week? Where would you suggest flying in? Only place I've been for an extended time in Europe is Paris, so the sky's the limit! Timeframe: late June. I would love any and all suggestions!

I usually pick a spot I can get a cheap flight to, and that depends a lot on where you are flying from.

I would fly in to Zurich and spend 2 nights in Luzern.
Train to Milan for a night, then Nice for 2 nights, Avignon/Arles for 2 nights, before you head to Girona.

Try to walk this Quarter by day and by night. In the evening it is beautifully lit and very romantic. It's in the heart of the city so most of the main attractions are here or close by. Lovely!

It's a nice well-rounded little Euro trip. But, I think I would cut a night in Luzern and a night in Avignon, and keep Germany in the mix. Germany is worth the stop. Either in the cultural-hub in Berlin, or down in the South of Germany by the Black Forest. Definitely worth the stop.
