northern Italy or Croatia with a couple nights in Slovenia

I see below that I had three answers to this question but cannot pull them up for some reason. Again, your opinion regarding "which would you rather"... We love Tuscany but have gone no further in Italy. Never been to Croatia. Thinking in terms of fun, beauty, landscape, things to do, etc. Thanks.

You posted your original post (which I can't read either but still see it in your posting history) in "Trip Reports," which is the place you would post after you have been somewhere - not asking for information about it. The moderators should have moved it to another area - maybe they just deleted it by mistake.

Since I can't see your original post either, I would ask: how many nights exactly? What time of year?

"fun, beauty, landscape" is pretty general - what are your specific interests? Ljubljana is a beautiful, charming little city. There are some neat little towns nearby. Beautiful Lake Bled (a tourist resort) and Lake Bohinj (much less developed, more natural) are nearby.

The lovely Slovenian town of Piran and the Croatian town of Rovinj - both coastal towns in Istria with an obvious Venetian history - are worth checking out. Many who visit Croatian Istria visit the inland hill towns and base in a town like Rovinj or Porec. Some day trip to the big industrial city of Pula and check out the Roman ruins.

Others might venture further to say Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia - really lovely but very popular and busy. Worse in the high season and shoulder seasons.

This is so vague that it's hard to respond. Croatia is great. Been 6 times in 9 years.

Come back with something a little more specific, and it would be easier to give you some responses. Begin by reading RS' suggested itinerary, and read some of the other posts. They might give you some ideas.

Sorry guys. Yes, I was vague. I was just looking for some real subjective opinions on which you would rather to help me decide:-) When I travel, I live by Rick Steves books and do a lot of research online, almost too much. I have planned all my fly drives in the past with Rick Steves in my hand. This time we are doing motor coach I think, which many might feel is blah, so it is not like I need to figure out how many days here or there..for a change. A lot has been said about Slovenia and how beautiful it is..nature, caves, towns. And then in Croatia also the national park, forget the spelling. Devil's advocate here...we have lots of beautiful forests, parks in Canada so I would not particularly go for that reason alone or for the hiking. Looking for small town squares, lots of cappucinos, friendly people, architecture, good food. Don't need to see a lot of churches and museums..have done that. but I also find we lose a lot of good info driving around in crazy traffic trying to find a parking spot, etc. Dos this help more?

We have beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails here in Oregon too. And yet I went back to Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia a second time. it's is completely different and amazing. But, we all have different travel preferences and interests.

I suggest watching the Rick Steves Croatia and Slovenia TV shows on YouTube to get a better feel for what there is to see and do that might interest you.
