Where to fly into to go to Cinque Terre, and take in surrounding cities such as Parma, Verona, Padua and whatever else? Where to fly out of?

joan, If most of your trip is going to be in that area, Milan / MXP is the airport with the best international flights, so a return ticket from there would be my choice. If you're going to venture south to Siena, Orvieto and Rome, open-jaw flights (inbound MXP, outbound FCO) would be the best idea. Cheers!

Joan We flew into Genova. It is a about 90 minutes from there on a direct train to the CT.
We bought tickets from the kiosk in the Brigg. station, it was very easy and lots of trains going there. It cost about 9 euro each way.

Cinque Terre is on one side of Italy, the other towns you mention are on the other side! I'd recommend flying into either Genoa, Milan or Pisa. Fly out of Venice or Florence. FYI. Florence is about a 3 hour train ride from Venice. You could plan on a day or two (overnight) in Florence and enjoy the sights there before you head home.

Joan, after reading the responses...I just want to caution you to differentiate between 'Genova' (aka Genoa) and 'Geneva' (aka Geneve)... If your hotel reservations are in Italy, you don't want to get on a train or airplane to Switzerland 8^(
