NON i-Phone cell phones

I have an AT&T Razr. What's the best way to have cell phone service WITHOUT an iPhone? I will have a netbook with me.

There are tons of posts on here about phones, what to have, etc. Why not search a little bit to see if your question has already been answered.

Cheryl,

The easiest way to have Cell phone service would be to simply roam with AT&T. I believe the Razr is a quad-band phone, so it will work just fine in Europe. If your phone is still "locked", you will be limited to using AT&T service, as the phone won't accept SIM cards from any other networks.

I believe AT&T has an "international roaming plan" for a very reasonable cost that reduces the roaming costs slightly. Check with your AT&T rep. as the plan could be added before you leave and then cancelled after you return home.

One of the disadvantages of taking your existing Cell phone is that anyone calling your "home" number will be re-directed to your Phone in Europe. These calls will be EXPENSIVE, so if your phone is used a lot you may want to insist that your friends NOT call you when you're travelling. It's also extremely annoying to be awakened by calls at 03:00 as some inconsiderate moron forgot to check the time difference.

I find that the least expensive way to keep in touch with family and friends back home is to use text messages. On my roaming plan, outgoing texts are 75¢ each and incoming texts are FREE. Check with AT&T for information on their text rates.

Finally, as Jo suggested you might want to delete your duplicate post before it attracts any replies.

Happy travels!
