No Response for Inquiries - Normal?

Hello, first timer here. Heading to Glasgow and Outer Hebrides in October with my brother and sister in law. They are staying at a castle for 3 nights on Harris - i could stay there or at a B&B in nearest town...either works for me. But, I have made inquiries via the e-mail given on website for 2 B&B's and the castle over a week ago and none have responded. I cc-d myself so I know they were sent and I've checked my junk mail box - but nothing. None of these places have on-line reservations. Anyone ever had this problem? I was able to find that the castle has a single room for my dates from a celtic castle website - but they quoted a price at a significantly higher rate than what shows on the castle website. I asked if the quoted price included VAT but they didn't address that question in the e-mail response (which also took several days). Makes me a bit uncomfortable because they do want a 50% deposit and told me it a busy time. Any advice? Thanks much.

Check to see if the rates include dinner as well as breakfast. Whe I stayed in a castle I found out that it did include both breakfast and dinner. If you arn't getting a response via email, give them a call. It's not the ridiculous expense it once was. ; ) Pam

When you are looking at local places in small towns or even apartments owned by a single person in larger cities, you will get people who check their email about once every three days. I suggest calling during GMT business time. We've had this problem before in Italy, England, France and for houses on the Northwest Coast of the U.S. It's probably a problem elsewhere too. But a call will get you an immediate answer.

Call them. Remember the time difference and call when they are at work.

I've experienced the same thing with emails several times with no response. When I've copied my work email and requested them to respond to both emails, I received a quick response on my work email, but not my home email (comcast). Not ideal, but solved the problem.

This same thing happened to me when I e-mailed a B&B in a small English village (last May) - tried several times with no response; finally called, got the reservation and found out they were having computer problems.

If you have a Yahoo account, those sometimes don't go through. Do give them a call before you write them off.
