Nice or Cinque Terre...comparision please :)

I also posted this post in the Italian section but wasnt sure if i should also post it in the french section..here is goes!

I am in the beginning stages of planning my second summer trip to Europe. Last year was Italy and it was wonderful! This year we are starting in Scottland, then on to Paris. We would like to end our trip, as we did last year, with a beach desintation. We are looking into Nice or Cinque Terre. What are you thoughts on how these two areas compare? We fell in love with Positano and would like something like that :) Also which airport would you fly out of (back to bos) in each area? Thanks so much!!!

Stepanie - I haven't been to Positano or Cinque Terre but can tell you a little about Nice. If you want a beach, I'd recommned staying in Villefranche sur Mer and doing the beach there or walking over to Cap Ferrat and renting beach chairs on the beautiful, sandy beach with a view of Villefranche. The beach in Nice is all stones. You could do daytrips to Nice and other places nearby such as Eze le Village, or Antibes.

Thanks for your posts. Someone from the Italian section posted that I should look up pictures of both to get a better idea. This was very helpful. I did see that Nice looks more like a busy city than the small town of Monterosso but I didnt look up Villefranche sur mar. I will check this one out and see how they compare.
Thanks!

Trust Steve's reply. I've been to both places recently and it just depends on what you want. Nice is a big city and the beach is stone. If you're looking for sand, consider San Sebastian. The CT is just as Steve described. A great place for a hike and a view, but not much sand to speak of.
