My husband and our 2 teenagers will be in Lyon for New Year's Eve and are looking for suggestions for what to do. I understand that many people in Lyon go to a restaurant to celebrate. If someone has a particular recommendation I would appreciate it. Any other ideas?

For a special night it will be nice if you can afford a special place, especially in a city that is famous for its cuisine. This seems like a good project for your teens to research, and soon, so you can reserve on-line.

having lived 11 years in Lyon I can tell you it's a wonderful city, and one with plenty of great restaurants.
"La nef des fous" (5 rue du Boeuf, in the 5th arrondissement) is a very good restaurant, very creative french cuisine, and it's not too expensive. It is in the very pleasant Vieux Lyon neighborhood, the historical heart of the city. Reservation recommended.
The site http://www.en.lyon-france.com/ describes all the things you can do in Lyon (events, culture, sports...)
There probably will be NYE parties on the Place des Terreaux, you could go there and join the crowd.
If you speak french, I recommend you check http://www.petitpaume.com/ it is the best guide for Lyon: restaurants, bars, clubs, shops...
