New Year's in Europe

My wife and I will be in Europe (Palermo) on Dec 29. I am looking for the ideal place in Europe to spend New Year's Eve and a few days thereafter.

Palermo is actually a great place for New Year's Eve. The whole city has a street party. The main square (forget the name) is filled with performers . . singers, dancers, jugglers, etc. At the stroke of midnight people crack open their libations and sing. Great fun!

You could easily spend the next few days in Sicily. It has better weather at that time than most of the rest of Europe. The churches are adorned with marvelous prescepi (sp.?); and there are all of the usual sights to be seen

We spent New Year's Eve in Vienna and I have never in my life been anywhere that celebrated New Year's Eve in more spectacular style. There must have been hundreds of choices of dinners, parties, concerts or events, yet we were able to spend the day at the museum before going back to get ready. Very festive and really an amazing experience.
