New Visa/MasterCards with green dot

Heard about these on TV the other night. Apparently they are reloadable and act like a regular credit card except you load them. I like the idea of not giving anyone access to my regular credit cards. Have these new ones been out long enough for anyone to try them?

Check the fine print. Visa had a reloadable card, and I think the wanted 7% for the exchange rate if you used it in Europe.

Yes definately look at the fine print. I looked at one a while back and it was like $10 fee to buy it, plus a monthly fee, and I wouldn't even want to know all the foreign transaction fees they would come up with. It was really ridiculous.

I don't know if you have this in the US, but over here we have travel cards that we can load with Aussie $$ but go on as Euros or GBP (or NZD or USD) then once you are over there you can use it like a debit card (but you cant book anything online even though it is through visa) and with the one I have I only get a small fee for taking the money out - which is cheaper than my credit card.

I got mine through my bank, btu there is another one that seems to be available in most other countries called the Travelex Cash Passport. Its a little bit more expensive than the one I have, but its still reasonable.
