New Snapshot books

I was at a local mega-book mart today and saw that Rick is now publishing mini guides to cities and smaller geographic areas than the country and regional books. I think this is a terrific thing--fewer times to have to break the spine of a book and have a section or two bound at Kinko's so I don't have to drag a full volume along including loads of information about places I'm not going. It looked to me like the books were exact chapters taken out of the larger books. Too bad that there couldn't be a little bit of extra information, but it's probably unrealistic to expect new and enhanced content.

So...I think this is another great step towards minimizing the weight of info-paper than we have to haul around.

JER,

I had a look at some of the Snapshot books at ETBD last Saturday, and they looked good. Perfect size to pack along and very light!

I've had mind since mid-October when they came out. They will be nice so that I won't have to have them re-bound to take on the trip but all the info I need is in them. I also have the Italy 2010 so I have all the info but I'll only need the snapshots for the trip.

I've been making my own 'snapshots' for years...

I break the binding on Rick's book, staple those pages (plus some supplement pages from GO or Lonely Planet, or Michelin, and sometimes DK) to make my own ugly little booklet -- highlighted and marked into oblivion.

I'll probably buy snapshot books for return trips where I already know where I want to go, but just want the updated info. Good stuff.
