Netherlands, Hamburg, Berlin Accomodations

Me and a friend are going to be taking a trip and have three cities left that we have not arranged staying accomodations at yet: Amsterdam, Hamburg, and Berlin. Does anyone have recommendations for good hotels/ B&Bs/ hostels for these cities. Also, is it better to stay in Haarlem to save money and does anyone know of any good places there. Please note we are on a budget and the cheaper the better (while not sacraficing all degrees of comfort). All of your recommendations are appriciated.

Hi Camden. For Amsterdam, I can recommend either the Quentin Arrive Hotel (about 90 euros per night for a room with 2 people, with a minimum required stay of 3 nights) or Frederic Rent-A-Bike. Frederic has a number of properties in the city, including houseboats. We stayed at Frederic's Parents' Place for 70 euros per night for a room for 2 people. In both hotels, the rooms had a shared bathroom. Both hotels are in the Jordaan neighborhood, which is a nice area. The QAH is a 5-minute walk to the train station and FPA is a 5-10 minute walk.

I enjoyed staying at the Hotel Brouwer. Its an old canal side house that is now a hotel. It's not far from the train station - easy walk. I visited Haarlem and did a nice walking tour. I don't know if there is a real price advantage. I like being in Amsterdam. http://www.hotelbrouwer.nl/ As for Berlin, I stayed at the Hotel-Pension Kastanienhof. http://www.hotel-kastanienhof-berlin.de/english/index.html. It was convenient the rooms were nice and it had a great breakfast. Pam

For Hamburg, I can recommend the Hotel Baseler Hof. Great location right by a metro stop and just around the corner from the Binenalster. The included breakfast was several steps about the usual European hotel fare. Although I wouldn´t call it a budget option, it wasn´t too expensive.

In Amsterdam, we stayed in Vondelpark hostel. It was decent, and a value. It's near the Rijks and Van Gogh museums but you can easily catch transportation downtown.

In Amsterdam Hotel van Onna was decent. When we were looking at accommodations there we were surprised at how expensive they were. van Onna was budget and included breakfast. Quiet neighborhood and close to the tram. The stairs were quite steep, we were thankful we are fit and had backpacks instead of wheel-y luggage!
