A couple weeks ago somebody posted a fantastic website for mapping out travel options in Europe. In one search you could see how much time and approximately how much money it would cost to get between any two points. I thought I had bookmarked it, but now I can't find it. Hopefully someone else saw the same post and can help me out!

Amelia, it's my "go to" site for making quick decisions for "what if" scenarios of distances & overnight stops for vacations. Sometimes the price isn't accurate (Switzerland) but otherwise, it's helpful.

How to Look Up Train Schedules Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.
For flights, www.skyscanner.com is a good search engine.

I find that the Rome2Rio website is great for a "ballpark estimate", but for current costs or travel details it's necessary to do some further checking. For example, with rail travel the most current information will be found either on the bahn.de website or the websites of the various rail operators in each country (ie: Trentalia).
Ken and others are right, you need to check prices apart from those listed on Rome2Rio, but there are links to the proper site when you click on the mode of transportation you choose. R2R does not sell tickets on its site. It also shows the routes on a map.
