Need travel help outside of Europe

Are there any recommendations for travel in south america? Specific guidebooks or websites that you've used that have been as good as Rick Steves is for Europe travel?

Thanks for suggestions!

i've not been to SA yet, but Lonely Planet guides have never ever failed me. (4 continents and counting)

I would also check out the tripadvisor.com forum boards.

Lonely Planet is also highly recommended, and check out Rough Guides.

My wife and I spent a couple months in Brazil a few years ago and used Lonely Planet and read anything we could find at local book stores in other travel publications. We talked to several in Barazil who had been to more of South America and Lonely Planet seemed to be a popular choice.

Lori,

The Lonely Planet Guidebooks are an excellent source of information for travel in the areas you mentioned. Incidentally, they also have a Message Board (similar to this one) called The Thorn Tree.

Happy travels!

As people have alreadt said The Lonely Planet Guidebooks are good. You could also go to Barnes and Nobles website to see what books they offer.
