Need recommendations for quick drying socks

I'm traveling light to Europe, will do laundry in the sink every 1-2 nights. Plan on bringing 2 pairs of socks, 1 to wear and 1 in the bag...no more. I'm looking for socks that I can wash at night and be dry by morning, but also have at least some cushioning for all the pavement I'll be pounding every day. So, thin dress socks won't cut it.
Any recommendations on brands/vendors?
FYI...I'm only bringing a pair of walking shoes and TEVA sandals, to alternate occasionally.

Some types of Smart Wool brand socks are designed for this. Even though they are wool they keep your feet cool in summer. I think Ex Officio also has options.

If mine weren't dry in the morning I just put the hair dryer in the open end of the sock and held it there for a little bit. That's probably not the smartest thing to do, but it worked!

Smartwool are great, although I haven't tested mine for drying time.

These I have tested: http://www.rei.com/product/799001

(I have the women's version). I wore them walking 7 miles a day when we were walking in a city last month. They dry in hours after washing in the sink and pressing dry with a towel. Wear them inside out if you don't want the Pearl Izumi logo to show.

Use wool socks year around and the dry overnight. One thing about socks is that you can wring them pretty tight and then spin them.

Again, another vote for Smart Wool. Can't go wrong there. I'd recommend the Smart Wool PhD Outdoor socks. They have different thickness levels to choose from as well. While the lights are nice, I usually stick with the mediums, summer and winter. Keeps the feet warm in the cold, and I've been wearing them lately in 80-90 degree weather! Plus they dry quickly too.

After years (8) of research in packing for Europe, I am now down to one RS carry-on for one month and do laundry every 3rd night, I am a fan of ExOfficio. I have worn them from Scandinavia to Rome with no problems.

When trying to pack light, I find it helpful to use a kitchen scale. ( for the none-cooks, these scales show pounds and ounces up to ten pounds) You will find some items weigh so little you can afford (weight wise) to take a couple of extras. And therefore, have less laundry nights. :)

I have Tilley socks that I love. They have a 3 year guarantee, and I've had mine for a year, wear them every week, no holes. I can wear out socks in a month. I've taken them on trips, rinse them out at night, squish in a towel, leave them overnight, and dry by morning. Lightweight, not a lot of cushioning, but I find them supportive. And I didn't always want heavier, I like having a lighter pair too.

Dylan,

I also use Tilley clothing extensively, and use both their Walking Socks and Travel Socks. The Travel Socks are lighter, and easily dry overnight (unless there's a lot of humidity). The Walking Socks are thicker, so they take a bit longer to dry.

The Walking Socks are really comfortable, and I tend to prefer them over any other types.

Maybe Tilley has better prices for Canadians? All their clothing seems to cost about twice what it needs to---including the socks, which are double the price of the ones from REI that I like.

I do love my Tilley hat, though.

I typically bring three pairs of identical black crew socks (including what I wear on the plane) because they match anything and don't look bad when I'm trying to dress up (white socks is probably worse than white tennis shoes). I don't wear socks with sandals or shorts.

My current travel socks are Adidas and UnderArmour. They are both no-cotton (polyester/spandex/rayon/nylon). The UnderArmour ones came from Macy's (near the addidas sports gear) and are about $15 for four pairs. I can't remember where I picked up the Addidas ones, probably a sporting goods store.

They look and feel like any athletic crew sock (except they're black). Both are comfortable and wash/dry well overnight.

I still pack the third pair in case I lose a sock or two along the way.

Would highly recommend Tilly socks as well as their other travel clothes. The socks are expensive but have a 3 year warranty. Had a tiny hole in mine after 2 years and they replaced them no question....

I have found a lot of light hiking socks to have everything you are asking for, especially the Redhead brand light hiking socks (the ones with coolmax, not merino wool), available at Bass Pro Shops, though I couldn't find them online.

SmartWool are the best socks ever. Like another poster, I've never timed drying them, but I take a pak towel and roll all washed items in it to speed up drying time. I'd recommend 3 or 4 pairs of socks and underwear to cut down on wash days and to allow for changing after a long day's walking/hiking.
