Need more suggestions please. Budapest, Vienna etc in 2016

I posted recently about this itinerary and have revised it somewhat. I would appreciate input and suggestions on this please.

Arrive April 21 in Budapest for 4 nights
Train to Vienna for 4 nights
Train to Prague for 4 nights
Train to Dresden for 3 nights
Train to Berlin for 3 nights
Then rent a car and drive south then fly home from Frankfurt or Munich.
Fly home on May 13th.

Anyone see any problems here?

It's OK itinerary. Maybe I would take one night from Dresden and give it to Berlin.

Ilja makes a good point. 3 nights in Dresden is a lot, compared with your other cities. I understand you've been to Berlin before, but since you are arriving in Budapest, consider another night there.

Thanks Ilja and Chani. I'll take a day away from Dresden and maybe give it to Berlin unless you have suggestions for the drive down to Frankfurt/Munich?

I appreciate your help!

I agree that Berlin needs 4 nights, I stayed 5 nights and wasn't ready to leave by a long shot so if you take a night from Dresden I would put it here.

This will get you cities, villages, monasteries, castles, forests, vineyards and ...... pretty good mix.
Favorite Hotels

Budapest: hmmmm, too many good ones to chose from. Mid range: K&K, upper end: Corinthia (there are better locations, but for that style its worth the walk) and the Elizabeth Park Ritz Carlton (excellent hotel in good location)
Vienna: Imperial
Prague: Ventana
Gyor: Klastrom
Cesky Krumlov: Dvorak (only if you can get a room with a balcony)

Frankfurt/Munich?

From Berlin to Frankfurt:

  • Wittenberg (Luther, Protestant Reformation etc., World Heritage Site = WHS)
  • Dessau- Wörlitz Garden Kingdom (WHS)
  • Leipzig (old town, Bach church, zoo)
  • Naumburg (small preserved town with a Gothic cathedral and the most famous statues of the Middle Ages)
  • Weimar (cultural heart of Germany, cute old town surrounded by parks and castles, WHS)
  • Erfurt (according to Rick Steves the "untouristy Rothenburg", highly recommended in combination with Weimar)
  • Wartburg castle (Germanys historically most important castle, WHS)

On your itinerary you only see big cities, that's why I would recommend to see one or two smaller places between Berlin and Frankfurt or add a day to Dresdena gain, which is the best city for day trips on your list.
