We're heading to a wedding in Belgium in May and have 2 full weeks after. Been to Belgium many times and France several times. So far we have plans to go to Alsace. Basing near Colmar for several days then on the Beaune area for another few days. Both of these areas are repeats. We are flying out of Nice so will be making our way south. Can anyone recommend a good route with interesting sites along the way where we could spend a few days.
We're usually pretty good at planning but for some reason we're not coming up with good ideas. TIA
From Alsace/Strasbourg, since you've been to Beaune already, cut east to Baden-Baden, over to Stuttgart (lots to see-palaces, Mercedes factory/museum, etc., castles, etc.), down to Zurich (2 hrs from Stuttgart), Geneva, around to Chamonix, then Nice. Or from Zurich, go through Lucerne to Interlaken, Jungfrau foothill towns (common stopping points for Rick Steves followers), then down to Nice.
What your trip needs is a major destination, so far you don't have one! When you leave Northern France, take the TGV South to Province. (There's nothing in between worth stopping). This is your golden opportunity to explore Aix, Avignon, Arle, and Nime and enjoy some of the great wines from the Cote du Rhone!(Even Marseille if you wanted to work it in.) If you do this you will know you have been to "Le Sud", not just Nice. Bon Voyage!
