We are planning on traveling late September for 3 weeks or so to 3 countries. We are leaving from and returning to New York City. What we originally thought was that we would fly into Amsterdam and stay in Haarlem which we’ve been to before. Spend a week there going into Amsterdam to the museums and such as day trips. Fly to Faro Portugal and stay in Corveiro. We’ve never been to Portugal and the Algarve region looks beautiful. Stay one week or more here exploring. Then fly to Prague to experience this beautiful city and the beer! Looking at flights it seems counterproductive because it seems in order to get to Prague from Faro there’s not a direct flight. What I found was either a layover in Amsterdam or Paris and it seems exhausting. Does anyone have any ideas? My husband really wants to keep Prague on the itinerary but we are open to suggestions.
Amsterdam to Prague to Faro would work, though travel from Prague to Faro would be a 6 hr plus plane trip. Ultimately Amsterdam is likely to be the travel hub for both of the other places.
Prague is a magical place. I strongly recommend it.
We just returned from Haarlem, and stayed at the Hotel Boutique Staats. It is truly a two minute walk from the train station, yet it's on a small, very quiet residential street. You exit the train station and turn left. ( I believe the hotels on the opposite side , if you exit the train station and turn right , have a lot of street and bus noise.)
On most days it took us four minutes from the time we closed our hotel room door until our butts were on the train to Amsterdam.
I would stay here again, however, there is no elevator, as it's built in an old school house. It has great staff, service, unique style, and breakfast.
Safe travels!
Why pick three places so far apart. Save with less travel.
Also, the Algarve is nice, but Porto and the Douro Valley is better.
I like what Tom_MN said,. Is there a nonstop to US from Lisbon that you could take?
We loved both Carvoeiro and Prague! Carvoeiro is a perfect location in the Algarve. We had five days but more would be even better. We then had a night in Faro to fly home from Faro to Lisbon and then home. I'm sure you could get to Prague from Faro. We only had four nights in Prague because we then did one night in Cesky Krumlov and then five nights in Budapest (loved it!!) If you have a full week in Prague try to do one night in CK. It is beautiful once others leave. I did a few posts on it. Hopefully I can post. If not, pls remove. https://sunsetsandrollercoasters.com/things-to-do-carvoeiro-algarve-portugal-praia-marinha-benagil-cave/ and https://sunsetsandrollercoasters.com/destinations/europe/czech-republic/
I thank everyone for their inputs. All were appreciated. We will definitely go to Portugal, Czech Republic and now maybe Budapest after reading the latest comments. It sounds wonderful. You won’t believe what we are doing though. We decided to postpone Europe for this fall and instead travel there next springtime. An opportunity came up and we are going to north west India in November. Going to the Golden Temple, Tah Mahal and into the Himalayas for some beautiful nature. We’ve never been.
