Hello Travel friends,
Our tour to Israel was just postponed. Where is a good place to travel in January or February? We did Southern Spain last April so that's not an option. Don't want the bitter cold. Any suggestions?
Check the temperatures in Rome to see if they are too cold for you. I spent a week there in January. Chilly at night, but sunny and pleasant during the day. All the tourist sites are open, and crowds are much more manageable than during warmer times of the year.
Italy (I have been twice and winters are mild) Greece, Morocco, Ghana, Portugal
Sicily and/or Malta
Don't want the bitter cold.
You'll get better responses if you expand on that a bit. What do you consider "bitter cold"?
OK, so Norway or Iceland (and even southern Spain, because you've apparently seen it all) are probably off the list, but...you know, it can get a bit cold in Israel sometimes during February (your original destination). How warm do you really want/need? Are you looking for warm-enough-to-swim, or just "no frozen precipitation"?
For that matter, what are your interests? There's a lot of Europe that typically isn't "bitter cold" (by most folks' definitions). And, of course, lots of the rest of the world, too...does your destination need to be in Europe?
You're on the west coast. Head further west. Hawaii. French Polynesia. Fiji. New Zealand. Singapore. Vietnam. Thailand. None of those should be cold.
We are doing a Road Scholar tour to Central Mexico in January to escape the cold, dark Alaska winter.
For Europe
The Canary Islands (Spain).
Crete or other Greek Islands
Egypt (its amazing and cheap)
Australia
Argentina and Chile with an Around The Horn cruise.
We went to Madiera Portugal end of February this past Spring. It was the perfect temps (for me at least) in the low 70's and sunny. If you haven't visited, then you should add to your list. It's a pretty magical place.
