Neck Pillow

Many people indicate they have a hard time sleeping on the plane, and I'm one of them. I do have a neck pillow, but I notice that if I do start to doze off, my head drops forward, and it wakes me up. I see that Magellan has a Komfort Kollar that goes all around the neck (even in front). I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this - good/bad/indifferent? Thanks.

I just turn the neck pillow around so my head won't drop.

Funny, I turn mine around as well, which helps with the forward head drop, but also allows me to have my head flush with the back of the seat (don't like it when my head cannot rest all the way back). Try turning it around and see if it works for you.

My best pillow technique is to not fill it up all the way. I find filling it about half way makes it more comfortable for me.

Also putting a pillow case or sweater over it is another good way to improve comfort. Target has some now with a pretty cushy fleece cover - I almost bought one a couple of days ago.

Turning it around makes sense, but you really only have to turn it 90 degrees.

What clever people - I had never thought about doing that. Thank you.

Sharon, I agree -- what a great idea to turn it around 90 degrees. I haven't travelled on a long flight since I had neck surgery last year, and have been trying to figure out what to do. I took a 3-hour flight a few weeks ago, and had such a sore neck after only an hour's nap. My problem is both with my head dropping forward, but also with my head tilting up (chin out). Worst thing I can do for my neck.

I'm going to practice the 90-degree way and see if it solves my problem.

Thanks for the great ideas --

Sharon, I bought the collars from Magellan's sev trips ago and feel they're worth the $ and give more su[pport than the blow-up pillows. The collars also blow up/deflate easily and each comes in its own little pouch. Be sure to measure your neck so you get the right size. Another must have for us is the blow-up lumbar pillow from Eagle Creek; REI has them as well as Travel Smith & Magellan's. We use them in the car as well for longer trips here and in Europe.

The bad thing about taking a neck pillow with you is that you have to lug it around everywhere you go, taking up precious luggage space (unless it's inflatable of course).
