Naples/Pompeii/Paestum

I'm planning to finally visit Naples, mostly to see Pompeii and other ancient sites (Paestum? Herculeum?). Italy is my other homeland but never been south of Roma. Flying in to Naples and working my way up to Turin in roughly 2.5 weeks (stopping to see family in Lucca as well). Is it possible to Fly in to Naples on a Tuesday and see enough to leave on a train Friday? If so, any suggestions on getting around to all of these would be appreciated. Grazie!

Mille Grazie, Zoe!
That gives me some options I would not have considered. Carla

Carla, timing is everything. You can go to Pompeii as a daytrip (or a long half-day) from Naples. Paestum has a few train stops per day, so it would be best if you spent the night either in Paestum or Salerno (I prefer Paestum, there are hotels right across from the ruins). So: Tuesday: Naples (Archeological Museum, other sights) Wednesday: Daytrip to Pompeii, return to Naples, more sights in Naples Thursday: Paestum (ruins, museum, beach), stay the night in Paestum Friday: Leave from Paestum or Salerno. Alternatively, you could: Tuesday: Naples (see everything that you can) Wednesday: Leave Naples for Pompeii on the Circumvesuviana, after Pompeii take the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento and the bus down the Amalfi Coast; spend the night in Amalfi or Salerno. Thursday: Go to Paestum and either stay the night there or return to Salerno.
Friday: Leave from Paestum or Salerno. Note that Paestum has an unstaffed train station if you take the train, so be sure you have a ticket for your next segment before you arrive there. If you do spend the night in Paestum, your hotel will pick you up at the train station.
