Names on passport and airline tickets

We booked tickets on Orbitz from Viena to London and they came through with just our first and last names. They assured me that we didn't need the middle names that are on passports as long the first and last names are exactly the same. Anyone with experience on this?

As long as the names aren't different, you'll be okay. Leaving out a middle name or have a shorter name on the ticket is alright.

My middle name never appeared on plane tickets. Just like it's not on my driver's licence or any ID.

My Travel Agent always makes sure that the names on our flight tickets is exactly as on our passports. She is meticulous about this, middle initials or middle names included.

Norma....the point is, it's not necessary. so the questioner has nothing to worry about.

Not a problem. We've traveled overseas several times with our airline tickets only stating our first and last names. Passport shows full first, middle and last names. Never had an issue. You are fine!

To Norm from Norma: Apparently Air Canada is quite finicky about this. Thus spoke the Travel Agent.

Agree with the others that it will not be a problem. My passport has first middle and last. I have never had a ticket issued that included my middle name and no one has ever questioned.

I have a background in the Travel Industry and I assure you that you won't have any problems.

Norma is right about Air Canada being finicky. Or at least they reportedly were in the early days post 9/11.

I read an article about it in a Professional Travel Industry bulletin. It was mostly just an article about some security checks done just post 9/11 by Air Canada frontline employees.

An internal memo went out asking employees to be vidulent in confirming identities on Passports and cross referencing with tickets. Some took it too far and it made the news.

So Norma's Travel Agent was just taking heed of the news release and did her or his part to help keep us safer. Sounds like a true professional. Booking online does not provide that same level of service that Norma spoke of.

I can honestly claim to be an expert in this - I am employed by an airline as a technical specialist in all areas of airline bookings, reservations and ticketing.

Your tickets are fine and fully comply with all IATA, US Federal and European, air travel requirements.

Thank you all. I just wanted to make sure. Didn't want any surprises when we arrived at the airport in Vienna.
