Name me some crazy activities to do

I’ve recently come to the realization that life is way too short to waste time idling around. I’ve decided to embark on an adventure to do as much crazy and fun stuff to do. I’ve got a lot of cash saved up and I’m set to go out and explore the world. My friends have already suggested I’d try out skydiving, trekking, extreme outdoor sports, and more but I think all I’m missing is something physically and emotionally exciting rather than just pure adrenaline.

I was thinking of trying some exotic spa treatments like mud baths and acupuncture. A friend of mine has suggested trying out weird situations like joining an international dating social event, it honestly sounds completely nuts, which is right up my alley. You guys have any other suggestions?

Go to Prague in July. That would be nuts.

Seriously though I'm not sure this is the correct type of forum to provide suggestions to the standard you're looking for. Personally, I get a kick out of the fact that we've been able to travel as much as we have over the past 12 years. I've been reflecting more often recently on how much we've seen and done, and the hard work and persistence and commitment to make that happen. For me that's my "life is too short" moment and a good return on investment is has indeed been. Thats my thrill.

Thanks for sharing your ideals, my friend. I'll certainly keep looking for ideas :)

In 1973 I got to Prague in July, spent 5 nights Yes, it was a different time then.

Acupuncture isn't really too "exotic" these days, but now somewhat mainstream. There are several clinics here that offer it. I believe it's intended more as a treatment for specific ailments, rather than as a "spa treatment". I've found that it seems to help a bit, but I'm still undecided on that.

Without any idea of your age, gender or background its difficult to know what the context is outside of what you mention above. Nonetheless, maybe try posting your question on one of the Lonely Plant forums as I think they are more suited to younger people than you would find here. There is also a very active Eastern Europe/Balkans/Former USSR Facebook group. Ask to join, then post there. For more inspiration check out Nomadic Matt and Atlas Obscura.

This isn't a "crazy" idea but it is a good one. Volunteer with a charity in a 3rd world country. You will have new and interesting experiences but you will also have a meaningful experience of giving of yourself and caring for others.

Not crazy, but actually useful....join the Peace Corps and serve overseas. I don't know a single person for whom this wasn't a formative experience. Doing "crazy" only for the sake of doing something "crazy" seems like a gimmick.

(PS: you do realize that this forum's demographics (likely) skew many decades older than you, right?)

I don't personally find acupuncture and mud baths to be all that crazy but fairly mainstream. But that made me think of the fish pedicures that are available in some areas. You put your feet in a water bath full of tiny fish and they eat the dead skin off of them. I don't think they are available in the US due to hygienic reasons, but I have seen them elsewhere.

nibbly fish were a fad here in the UK for 6 months or so until they were banned.

Go in a shark cage.

Put on a squirrel suit.

Drive the Nordschleife.

Climb the two peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Ride a submarine to the depths of the ocean.

Fly into outer space with Space-X or Virgin.

Ride an Uber.

Bicycle across Siberia.

Cimb Half Dome.

Paragliding in the Alps. There are people who will take you, I think about 100 euro but I'm not positive. A little more pedestrian is the sommerroddelbahn, also in the Alps, go full speed for a thrill, maybe 5 -10 euro.

We see people who ask
If they can take a European vacation and visit:
Dublin
London
Amsterdam
Paris
Munich
The Swiss Alps
Venice
Florence
Rome
And
Naples

in 14 days.

Many of us think that this is crazy.
:-)

But it would be an Adventure and would take a lot of cash!

I recall reading an article on "guerrilla tourism" once with several ideas to buck the standard tourist track even in well touristed areas. The two I recall the most were:

  • take photos looking away from famous sites (this is pretty common)
  • Get a list of street names for a city and plot a course from the first to the last in the most direct line you can make (might be harder to do now that paper maps are harder to come by)

Wish I could find the article but searching "guerrilla tourism" now just brings up a bunch of marketing stuff or Latin American tours.

How long is your plan to explore the world? A couple weeks, a month, a year?

You do realize you're asking a board where many think the definition of "crazy activity" is to go to a coin-op laundromat to wash your clothing instead of rinsing out your skivvies in the hotel sink?

If you've got a bunch of money and time, go get tickets to some of the major multi-day music festivals in Europe (like Roskilde, Isle of Wight, etc.). Or make a pit stop in the U.S. as you explore the world and go online in March to register and try to get tickets to get into Burning Man later this year.

Do a through hike - like one of the Camino routes through Spain or France (or both) in Europe - or in New Zealand.

I don't know anyone who has ever said they were "emotionally excited" at a spa over a mud bath or acupuncture.

HA HA especially funny in Pisa, where you can see people posing as if they are upholding the leaning tower - but can't see the tower.

Take horseback riding lessons and stick with it until you get good at cantering. Or jumping if you're into adrenaline. You will fall occasionally. Your friends will think it's crazy. Learning to communicate with another species can be emotionally satisfying in ways that are hard to describe.

If you get to Japan, attend a baseball game. Or set yourself a goal of attending all the baseball parks in Japan. Bonus points for learning Japanese first.
