Musical tour resources for Germany, Austria, etc.

In future, I'd like to do an on-our-own tour of music-related sites in Europe, especially those related to Bach, Beethoven and Mozart, among others. Going during a music festival is a possibility as well. Does anyone know of online resources that would be helpful in constructing such an itinerary? Since we're retired, we could do this any time of the year, though we much prefer to travel off-season.

For other instances of themed travel, I've found it helpful to look at itineraries of organized tours even if I decide to go there on my own.

Thanks in advance for any links or reference sites!

I'll comment that the places you go to follow Bach and Mozart are such rich cultural cities that it is difficult to avoid missing the many other virtues they have. Sample discussion:

There are so many historical properties in a country like Germany that you can't visit them all, and it can be hard to discover that, say, the Mozart family stopped there in the previous (!) mansion that burned down in 1840. Even a city like Weimar has ten times as many NON-Bach sites. And it's so close to Leipzig and Erfurt and Gotha that you can't see everything. There's no longer much actual remants of Bach in Eisenach, but any music lover has to visit the Wartburg. It's hard to know in advance (Leipzig) that there's going to be an organ or choir rehearsal in the Thomaskirche, but we stumbled into one!

More concretely on your OP, I wonder if some of the biggest music schools might have fund-raising related commercial tours, like even smaller private colleges do. If the tiny Joyce Theater (NYC) can sell-out dance tours to Cuba, there must be something about music in Europe, somewhere.

jlschandler, Thanks for your private message. You reminded me that public radio stations often run musical-themed tours. Duh!
