If you like the song "Do, Re, Mi" from "The Sound of Music" and dance production numbers, check out this You Tube video filmed in the Antwerpen Centraal train station. Warning: You'll be tempted to join in!
OK, we now have the fourth posting of this video in these forums, and this is the fourth time I will explain that it was a promotion for a show on the Flemish TV network VTM, "Op Zoek naar Maria". I think the BBC broadcast an almost identical version of the program in Britain. And to add something new to the commentary (so I'm not writing the exact same thing again!), Antwerpen Centraal is one of the most impressive train stations in Europe, similar to DC's Union Station or Philadelphia's 30th Street Station.
But it is still awesome!!
I believe the format of the show originated in the US. About four years ago NBC had a similar show where the winner starred in a Broadway production of Grease. This new wave of "street theater" originated with the NYC "Improv Everywhere" group. You can see some other similar stunts at their website: http://improveverywhere.com/ Check out their "Welcome Back" mission.
"About four years ago NBC had a similar show where the winner starred in a Broadway production of Grease." But did they promote it with a huge rendition of "Grease Lightning" at Grand Central Station?
Been there done that;)
That's called a "flash mob". People assemble briefly at a predetermined time for a predetermined purpose, then disperse as quickly as they formed. There are lots of examples of it on YouTube -- search for "flash mob". Geocachers have their own version of flash mobs, and the fifth World Wide Flash Mob will be happening all over the world on May 2.
Ah, the genius of Terry Gilliam, one of the most under-rated directors of our time. And the man who uttered the famous lines "Not... the coumfy chair!" and "It's only a model."
