Munich vs Frankfurt layover?

I am considering a flight from SFO to Toulouse, France. Would you choose a 1 hr 20 minute layover in Munich, or a 2 hour layover in Frankfurt? In both cases, there are later flights in the day to Toulouse if we were to miss our connection. Thanks for your thoughts on connection time in both airports.

I don’t think I have ever seen a more efficient airport for transfers than Munich. I would pick it as my first choice.

MUC for sure. FRA can be a zoo.

IMHO, Zurich is the very best in Europe.

To me the Munich layover is too short considering you’ll need to go through immigration there. Also if your flight is delayed departing, that will cut your connection time too. While Frankfurt isn’t my favorite airport, the longer layover affords a little more time in the event of delays. Since there are later flights in case of a missed connection, I guess it’s a coin toss as to which to choose.

Munich. I just did a 50 min connection there in December including immigration and had no issues. Definitely avoid FRA if you can

Given those particular circumstances and the choice of Munich or FRA, I would choose Munich for a variety of reasons over Frankfurt. I have only been to MUC once, flying back non-stop to SFO. It impressed me quite favourably.

The two best airports I have been in are Munich and Hong Kong.

Why Munich? It's architecturally beautiful. It's an odd reason to recommend an airport. The design seems to have seeped into the facility. Munich is a calm airport. Some airports are so unpleasant because they are frantic, but not Munich.

The connection time was fine in Munich. I was in there in 2004 and 2022.

Barbara,

I fly out of SFO all the time and depending upon the time of year, there are often flight delays, so for me, I like to give at least 2 hour layover and therefore would vote Frankfurt. Not my favorite transfer hub, but one I know well. I have transferred before in Munich and it is an easier transfer if you think that 1 hour and 20 minutes is enough.

Thanks to all for the replies. I'm leaning toward Munich since my one experience in Frankfurt was not good, but I haven't decided for sure yet.
