Munich to Fussen to Lucerne to lauterbrunnen to milan via Susten pass by road

Hello everyone,

I'm planning to travel from Munich to Milan by road including night halts in Lucerne and gimmelwald in September 2016. On the way i would like to visit Fussen, interlaken, schilthron peak and susten pass. The travel mode i have chosen is by road in a rented car because it gives me flexibility to adjust my travel according to the situation. I like to stop at some wonderful scenic places and would like to spend a few moments taking pictures. My question is "is there any extra charges applicable if i rent a car (For example say BMW M4 convertible) from munich and travel along swizterland and drop it in milan aftr 3 days apart from rent charges as mentioned in Autoeurope website?" If so please tell me the extra costs that i have to consider for planning my travel and choosing my car.

Yes, there will be charges. They can't re-rent the car in Italy if it has German license plates. The "united" Europe isn't quite that united yet. They will have hire someone to drive it back to Germany.
Now times have probably changed, but a number of years ago, the Hertz agent snatched the BMW keys out of my hands when I told him I was driving to Italy. I had to settle for an Audi.
So get a quote, and if it works out, be sure to buy your vignette as soon as you cross into Switzerland.

Thank you very much sam.

To avoid the hefty extra charges, what if i rent a car from zurich and return it anywhere within swizz border?
and regarding schilthron top, how much time does it takes to reach the top from gimmelwald and descend back to lauternbrunnen?
I heard that early morning ride to the top is advisable as the clear skies make the view of snow caped mountains perfect.

I think that would be preferable, plus if you rent in Switzerland, the car will already have a Swiss vignette sticker on it.
Second question, maybe a half hour to 45 minutes up, less than an hour down. I've heard the morning is best, but I've only done it in winter on a crystal clear day.

Yup.. Perfect option for me to avoid spending extra bucks. Thank you very much. you cleared my doubts with ease.

Further, things to do in interlaken - Have you tried bungee jumping in interlaken??
Also please suggest me if there are hidden and most scenic towns or villages to visit in and around interlaken.
I would be driving through susten pass. i hope there won't be any weather problems in September. please suggest me any must see spots along susten pass.
