Deciding on Munich hotel Dec. for 4 nights.Hotel Bristol, Hotel Royal, Fleming Munich City--need 2 rooms- less than $150 each.Near Marienplatz-Maximillianstrasse--Is train station really bad location?Fleming looks so nice.....Can't find website for Bristol.
Main train station area has some seedy sex shops and strip joints with some sterile government-looking buildings and several beggars hanging around. I'm not sure that it's "so-bad", rather the Marienplatz area is just "so much better"!
Here is the address for the Hotel Bristol: (you'll have to cut and paste)

I stayed there during Oktoberfest in 2001, and would stay there again. Good breakfast. Great local transit link -- 1 block from Sendlicher Tor.
Stayed at the Hotel Ludwig opposite the train station. Not bad location or hotel. Read my and other reviews on the tripadvisor.com web site.
Re: Hotel Ludwig. I will check it out. I have read many reviews on Trip Advisor-- Fleming got really good ones. And Royal was okay-- and is smoke free. Both of those are near the train station. I'd rather be near Marienplatz I think.
My son just checked out of the Hotel Munchner Kindl yesterday morning, and enjoyed staying there. It is just two blocks from the main Pedestrian area, walking distance to the Marienplatz through the pedestrian area. Hotel Munchner Kindl has a website (google the name you'll find it) and Renate is so helpful you can't help but feel welcome.
We stayed at the Hotel Uhland in a beautiful converted old mansion. Very easy walk through quiet residential area to the Marienplatz. I highly recommend it.
