Multiple Chemical Sensitivities -- Lodging Help?

Any suggestions for lodging in Bath for MCS patients? Emails from various B&B reps strongly suggest we should "stay away" as they are "constantly re-painting" or refurbishing.

Gail,, you are going to find it hard, if not impossible to find any lodging that does not use chemicals to clean rooms,, every day or at least weekly. Painting and renos are done to commercial properties more often then homes due to wear and tear of the hundreds of guests that troop through each year.. that would include most b@bs ..
Perhaps,, and only with much luck, you may be able to find an apartment to rent,, and if offering an extra fee request it be washed down before your arrival with the products you can handle( vinegar and water?) I have no idea,, but I really do foresee travel being difficult for someone who is sensitive to most solutions that do not bother most people. Perhaps an option is to rent a small RV ? You could at least clean it as you need it cleaned and stay in it? How do you cope with travel at home?

I think you might need to look for some chain hotels that will offer hypo-allergenic rooms. They will use materials, beds, pillows and cleaning products that might be helpful to you.

I think this is a situation where you may be forced to go the large chain hotel route. Small B and B's will likely be too worried that, if you are seriously affected by something, damages will put them out of business. A larger chain may have experience in accommodating MCS patients and be less nervous about lawsuits that will put them out of business. Have you had good experiences with any US hotel chains in this regard? You might contact their customer service department to see what the closest appropriate lodging they might have to Bath. Even if you end up having to stay some distance away and commute into town during the day, you will probably find it worthwhile rather than risk an adverse medical situation.

Thanks for all the thoughtful and helpful replies. Chain hotels in the US have worked with us in the past: finding a room on a floor that has not been refurbished in the past year, asking housekeeping to refrain from using carpet cleaner/room scent/ammonia glass cleaner. When we traveled to Munich in 2010, Hotel Uhland's one room set aside for those with allergies worked out well -- public transport and train station nearby. On this trip, we'd like to be closer to the city center.
