Multiple appliances with converter

Hi, I am moving to East Africa from Canada. The voltage there is 200 plus volts. I want to bring several appliances (most of them heating appliances). I do not want to buy a voltage converter for each and every appliance...what are my options? can I buy a 1500 W voltage converter and attach it to a multi outlet power bar? The appliances I want to hook up to it are a rice cooker (less than 500 W), a magic bullet (less than 400 W), a hot plate (1500 W) and a kettle (1500 W)...they wont all be hooked up at the same time. Thanks!

Walkabout Travel Gear has a great array of converters and adaptors. You need to pay attention and buy converters or transformers that can handle the wattage and as well as whether or not the item will be in continuous use or only used when needed. We have to employ a small converter (The Walkabout Solution) when we want to use our American Blu-Ray player, so we plug it in for the necessary 2 hours, then unplug it. I also use one with my flat iron. Neither appliance is high wattage, and neither is in continuous use.

Betty, we found that rather than pack all the small appliances and have our company pay for the shipping or excess baggage, it was easier to purchase those items in Africa. (We lived almost 8 years in West and East Africa when I was growing up.) When I visited last year though, I did bring my 110/220 hair dryer which worked great. Just an alternative to consider!
