I was astounded by how many women and some men tried to get me to come into their 'private clubs'. I assume these to be strip clubs or houses of ill repute. They are extremely persistent, even tugging on my jacket to get my attention. To avoid most of them, walk down the middle of the street on the pedestrian boulevard.

My son, sister and I happened upon this street sort of by accident during the day, coming down from Montmartre, and walked down the middle of the blvd., which has greenery and benches, and it was fine, no hassles. Of course a single man walking down the sidewalks, day or night, would certainly have a different experience.

Yep, that's exactly right. And the stories are that single men going into one of those places often find themselves buying very expensive champagne for their new "dates".
I haven't heard of any harrassment on the street itseld, beyond the entreaties to come inside. The window displays can be quite graphic, though.
Many people take a tour down the street (Boulevard Clichy) precisely because it is so over the top.
