mosquitoes in Venice in November?

I will be traveling to Venice next week and am wondering if I should plan on encountering mosquitoes and whether they're a problem this time of year. Thanks!

I have not been to Venice in November but I was there is February and mosquitos were not a problem. In fact even in the height of summer I hardly noticed them. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I was in Venice last year at this time. Didn't have any problems with mosquitos.

Where are you going to camp in Venice??!! We were there in October and did not see any.

I must have missed the part where Melanie said she's going camping. At any rate, it's certainly possible that there are going to be some mosquitoes around until the temps drop to freezing or below. The average low temp for November is 39. It's also a wet month on average, and mosquitoes require very little standing water to breed (I'm not an entomologist, but I understand they don't actually breed in the canal water...too salty...not as much as the sea but more than fresh water). In November, you'll wear more clothes, pants, and a jacket, so they're probably not going to be much of a bother, even if they're around and you spend a lot of time outdoors. Perhaps you'll luck out and not see any (I didn't in July a couple of years back...I'm sure they were there...I just didn't experience any). Have a great trip! Had you asked about bed bugs, you would have received some interesting replies. :)

We are in Venice right now and were shown to our room above a narrow canal. When we told the hotel manager that we like to sleep with the window open, he told us that there are still mosquitoes outside. So far I haven't gotten any bites (they always find me), but we've kept our windows closed at night.

People posting here have reported making the mistake of leaving their room in Venice, with a window open and a light on -- not good! There have been stories about them returning to a room full of mosquitos. More of a problem in the warmer months when windows are left open.

Thanks for the replies. I won't be camping. I'll be in a B&B. Melanie
