More destinations in Sept-Oct? Berlin, Munich, Paris and...?

Hi all - I'm planning a trip for late Sept and possibly into very early October, and can use your help! I'm planning to take 2-3 weeks (really pushing for 3)!

I need help picking one or two more destinations. Ideally, I'd like to visit those places first, then over to Berlin (I've always wanted to go!), Munich (Oktoberfest) and Paris (luckily, I have several friends who live there). I'm also taking beginner's German over the summer just for fun.

Any suggestions for a destination or two to kick things off in September? I've been fortunate in that I've visited Europe a handful of times, but there's so much more to explore. (Previously, I did a home stay in Brittany, visited Paris, London, Florence/Tuscany and the southern coast of Croatia.)

Tips and suggestions welcome - thanks!!
Matt

Rome or Venice or both come to mind. This assumes you have 3 weeks

Start in Rome and work your way north toward Berlin?

Amsterdam or Copenhagen are pretty obvious choices, both 6-7 hours from Berlin by train, or the same could be said of Warsaw, Gdansk, or Prague.

An option would be the lake constance area. Perhaps a nice break from city hopping. Consider Lindau great trans connections to Munich or medieval Meersburg? I highly recom these 2.
