Has anyone stayed at the Grand Hotel Swiss Majestic in Montreux, especially since it has been newly renovated? Reviews are superb and location sounds wonderful. We had planned to stay at the Golf Hotel Rene Captain but the rates have gone up so high decided to look some more. The Majestic isn't much less, but doesn't have the frequent negative comments that the Golf gets in reviews. My concern is that breakfast isn't included in the room rate and I imagine it's around 25 chf per person based on what I've read at other hotels. Does anyone know? We also looked at the Royal Plaza and the Eden Palace au Lac (which is full for our dates). We'd like a lake view and convenient location to train station and boats to cruise Lac Leman, which the Grand has. I usually book way ahead but got caught up in home remodeling and now I'm down to the wire. Comments please?

Chris, with your description of the Grand Hotel and your comment that you're down to the wire time-wise, I'd suggest you contact them right away! If you don't like the price of the breakfast, you could always eat out or bring (smuggle?) something in for breakfast. EDIT: This is just my opinion for what I would do in your situation! I have never stayed at the Grand Hotel Suisse and have only done a day-trip to Montreux from my boarding school and that was back in 1964 or so!

Don't know about the hotels that you are considering but we liked Hotel Masson. Our room was very nice with a private terrace, upscale linens, and a great breakfast was included in the price. Not many bargains in Montreux. HM also offered a five course dinner which was not included in the price but was very nice and worth the price.

Thanks for your replies. We decided to book the Majestic (even though it was more than we really wanted to spend) because the reviews were all very positive and it is very close to the train station and the boats that cruise the Lake. Breakfast is 24 chf per person, so we will probably eat elsewhere!
