After spending a day at the D Day Invasion sites, I will have an extra day free. Should I drive down to Mont St Michel or take the train to London for a day?

I would opt for Mont Saint Michel since you are that close and only have one day.

If you decided to go to London half of your extra day will be spend on travelling. You'd only have half a day to explore London.
Mt St Michel is so much closer and you'd have much less travel time and pretty much the full day to explore the site.

Les, They are both awesome places, but I agree with other posters. Mont St Michel makes much more sense. You would really only get to "see" London. I would save it for a time when you have time to truly explore London. Mont St Michel is a great spot to spend a day. I would advise spending the night there if possible. It's most crowded between 10 and 4. It's awesome in the evening after the crowds leave.
