Money belts of the type you wear under a shirt get hot in hot climates. I use a home made money vest: I had an old thin nylon shirt, cut off the collar and sleeves, and used the excess material to make two large pockets with tabs on the front of the vest. I put my passport in one pocket, and credit cards and large denomination money in the other pocket, both placed in plastic sandwich bags to keep perspiration out. I wear the vest under my shirt, and nobody knows it is there. The money vest takes the place of a singlet.
I just carry a wallet.
Why don't you just get an Eagle Creek Hidden Pocket? It hangs from your belt inside your pants. I've worn one for over two decades and don't even notice it's there.
I would have thought a nylon shirt its self would be horribly hot, then wearing it under a shirt........ughhh
I am with JC. Perhaps it's because we both live in Europe and largely travel there, we treat other European destinations much as we would places in our home country. There are obviouly some places with more risks, but they are easily identified and avoided.
I'm with Caro. Nylon?? Why not just use a neck pouch?
That's certainly a creative solution. However there is a commercial product that accomplishes the same function as the "Money Vest". Have a look at this.....
David, you are very clever and apparently adept with needle and thread! Thanks for sharing your very creative idea!
All of that to avoid wearing a money belt. I have never found it inconvenient or even particularly hot to wear a money belt. For me the extra layer of clothing would be more uncomfortable.
In 15 years of going to Europe, I have always used a RS money belt. I use to use the one around my waist but have changed to one that hangs around my neck. I wear an undershirt then the money belt, then an overshirt. I have never had a heat problem in traveling from Scandinavia to Rome to Lisbon or Barcelona. I do put the contents of the money belt into one of those zip lock bags. Luck me.
