Money/Time

I'm planning my trip to Europe finally, and I'm not quite sure of how much money or time the money I have will allow me to stay. My goal is to be there for 3 months and go to London, Paris, Biarritz, Nice, Rome, Naples, Bern, Munich, Cologne, Berlin, Amsterdam, Brugges, Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsinki. I have quite a few connection in many of the cities I plan to stay in and where I dont either would be couch surfing or staying in a hostel. Not including the airfare and Eurail pass how much could I make it on a cheap budget? Thanks for you help!!

If you look at this link http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/tips_menu.htm you will find a number of resources from the RS organization on sleeping cheap, eating, itinerary planning, etc. Have you read Europe Through the Back Door yet? It's an excellent guide to haleping you work through your questions and plans. I went to Europe for 7 weeks when I was in college (MANY years ago) and ate a lot of bread and cheese, drank cheap wine, etc. Slept on trains, in the homes of friends of friends, and so on. It was fabulous at 19; Now I travel at a little higher level of comfort and cuisine. :-) Still, you can eat well on $30-40 per day, maybe lots less if you have breakfast provided, do some picnicking. Be sure to budget for sights, too. You don't want to skimp on "must see" places once you've made the commitment to all the other expenses. RS books can help. I simply make a list of all the places we want to see (such as museums, churches, historical sites), and research the admission and possible discount options like the Roma Pass so I can make an informed judgment. You'll also want to budget for metro and local busses here and there. Have fun planning! Ciao!
