Money: Thoughts on wrist wallets?

Yes, yes. It's another money related question ...

I'm heading to the UK with a planned side trip to Paris (plummeting USD and all). I know that I would not feel altogether secure keeping my day's worth of cash in my pocket, home or abroad. I've read a number of the topic threads on money carrying strategies, etc., and I wanted to know what you all think of using a wrist wallet for daily cash needs. I'm thinking of the type that runners sometimes wear when they simply need to place to stash some pocket money when they don't have pockets. They generally come in two varieties: the wrap-around Velcro type and the pull-on-over-the-hand type.

I can see an immediate benefit/problem with this option:

Benefit: it's attached to my arm which is nearly always out where I can see it and I would know if someone was trying to take it.
Problem: the means of carrying my money is out there for ALL to see.

I haven't seen anyone post about them, so if you have thoughts on this idea, I'd love to hear them! Thanks.

Thank you both for your replies.

Kent, I hadn't even considered the actual physical size difference of the currency. I can see how that would make a difference. Thanks for that tip.

The reason I'm seeking alternatives to the "keep a days worth of cash in your pocket" is that the pockets on the pants I'm taking, while big enough to hold something, don't exactly mask when I do have something in my pocket. (My initial question was only about daily pocket money--not neck wallets or money belts.)

I might go with a sling wallet for the daily cash stash and--as you wisely pointed out, Nancy--trust my several years of Chicago street savvy experience when I'm abroad. :-)

I had never heard of these before now (I'm definitely NOT a runner) but I don't think they would have any benefits over the traditional moneybelt. It's not in "deep storage" if it's out where all can see it and it could attract attention, as you said. What do you do when you are at home? If you are attentive to circumstances around you, you aren't at any more risk in the UK than you are in Chicago.
