Money Belt at Airport TSA security checkpoint

Hi, We wore our money belt on our first trip to Europe 10 years ago . On our subsequent trips back , We always bring with us but only wear it when we know we will be in a crowded place. My question is do I leave my money belt on as I passed through security or I need to remove it and placed it on the bin to be checked ? Thanks

The scanners would pick it up and you would either have to remove it or be searched with a pat down or scanners. You may need to have your money belt go through x-ray separately, which would make me nervous. I'd recommend putting your money belts in an inside carry on pocket (backpack or purse), then before the plane lands, go to the restroom and attach your money belt at that time. Make sure you have either cash or atm card accessable for what you will need between the airport and hotel. You don't want to pull your money belt out to access an ATM or train kiosk at a busy airport after a long flight.

sally,

I wouldn't recommend wearing your Money Belt when going through security, as it will likely be detected and then you'll have to go through the embarrassing routine of removing it and putting it through the scanner again (while holding up other passengers behind you).

There was a question on that topic here on the Forum recently and there seems to be two schools of thought on the point. Some people have reported wearing the Belt and having no problems, but in EVERY case where I've forgotten and gone through the scanner, the Belt has been detected and I had to go through the routine described above, in view of other annoyed passengers.

I store the Money Belt in my carry-on bag and try to put it on sometime during the flight (usually just before arrival).

Thanks Karen and Ken for the good idea of placing the money belt in the inside pocket of my backpack while it goes through screening as I certainly don't want to have to remove the money belt in front of a lot of people .
