Mom wants to know....about bread

Ok, I hate to even type this because to me, it's weird. :) We are visiting my cousin in London this weekend and my Mom wants to bring her homemade bread. Can this be carried on? I told her to leave it home, but she wants her to have something from home. Help.

I know someone who baked chocolate chip cookies and took them to London without a problem.

But maybe someone else knows what the rules are now.

Well times have changed since my mom brought my brother in college in Boston a homemade cheescake on the plane in the actual spring form pan with ice blocks around it...

her seat mate..asked what was in the soft sided cooler and upon hearing asked to be adopted!

I would check the tsa site..and maybe even call them

worst case scenario the bread will be dumped either here or there!

Brooke,

Some years ago our close friends were going to England to see family they had not seen in years. They had a daughter and son probably about your age. Mom wanted to take something everyone might enjoy that they would not normally have. She decided on Peanut butter. Both daughter and son were too embarassed for words. They extracted promises from their parents that they never be seen in the proximity of their parents and the peanut butter at the same time. You can guess the rest. Yeah, the peanut butter was the hit of every meal until it was gone. Young and old loved it and it was an almost constant topic of conversation. The mom told me that as they were leaving to go home the young daughter of the relatives said, "Oh man, thanks for the peanut butter. We all just love it." The American daughter replied, "Thanks, we knew you would. I wanted to bring a couple of jars but mom said one was enough." How about some peanut butter to go on that homemade bread. Ummm!

We had a collie who loved bread more than anything else in the whole world. So the best possible souvineer we could think of to bring him home from Paris was a baguette that put into our checked bag on the way home.Needless to say, he was a very happy dog!I can't imagine why you couldn't carry on a loaf of bread. You're allowed to bring on a sandwich...it would just look like you're carrying on a large loaf of bread for a snack!

Hey thanks all! I loved the stories you had to go along with your answers. The bread will go and now from the sounds of it a jar of peanut butter will ride along in the checked luggage. :)

I've seen people openly carrying boxes of Crispy Cremes & Dunkin Donuts on transatlantic flights and nobody seems to bother them. This is more of a customs issue than a TSA/security problem. Since most European airports rarely have customs agents on duty, I would go for it.

As long as you can pass it through the security scanner and there is nothing metallic inside you should have no problem at all. Just make sure it's in a clear plastic bag.
