On a stay in Venice, we rented a car and drove out to the Ferrari factory. If memory serves me correctly, we rented the car from an agency by the Venice train station. Our primary purpose of traveling out there was for my F1 crazed son who, along with my husband were in heaven being in the presence of greatness, Scuderia Ferrari. Though not petrol heads, my daughter and I even enjoyed the museum. I don't recall a factory tour when we were there for I am sure, if there had been one, we would have taken it. Also, although the test track wasn't open to tourists, I do recall driving over it with our windows down to have a look and listen. I don't remember exactly how long the drive was, but it was an easy day trip from Venice. And, depending on when you go, you may even see Sebastian Vettel.

The 12:30 Ferrari tour that's open to the public is a bus ride past the engineering buildings and onto the (quiet at that time) test track. You don't exit the bus or visit inside the factory. You can certainly see both of Maranello's Ferrari museums in one day, including that tour. If you will be taking their shuttle bus from Modena train station, note only a couple of morning departures. Seeing Lamborghini in the same day probably only works with your own car, if at all. The Lamborghini tour also needs a reservation and that museum says it's open shorter hours (10-5).
