Has anyone rented a mobile wifi device for their trip to Europe? I have Verizon and they have a $10 a day plan for unlimited data but hoping to find something cheaper. We'll be driving in France and will feel better if we had wifi readily available and with a wifi device, my friend and I can share the cost. I'm wondering if anyone has used it and how well it worked.
A mobile wifi device would have to have a sim in it for a European mobile network. In Germany (I don't know about France), you can get sims for T-mobile. But you need a gsm phone, which Verizon is not.
In Germany in 2012, I used an ATT "web stick" with a T-mobile sim (from PennyMarkt) in the USB socket of my laptop. I think I paid 1,99€/day for unlimited data.
My gsm BLÜ phone takes dual sims and will serve as a wifi hotspot.
My Samsung phone serves as a mobile hot spot and with TMobile the data is free.
I know I can use my iPhone but the 2 data plans offered by Verizon are either expensive or very limited. I was thinking of getting a "Mifi" device. Has anyone used them? My son rented one in Japan and was happy with it. Just wanted to know if anyone has experience in Europe.
When my friend and I were in Nice last year we rented a portable wifi device at the tourist office. It was only for France, and before you leave France, all you have to do is drop it in a mailbox. Depending on how long you need it, prices vary. The longer you need it, the more it will cost. We were in France for a week and a half and we rented it for about 150 euro for it.
