Is it best to take the bus or train from Malpanasse into Milano to spend the day Is the hop on hop bus worth it Looking for suggestion to spend the day, markets, etc Nancy
Nancy, The only town called Malpanasse I could find is in France. Is that where you meant? There is the main airport for Milano which is called Malpensa. It that where you meant?
nancy, Could you provide a bit of further information. How long will you have in Milano, and what type of things are you hoping to see? My suggestion would be to take the Malpensa Express from MXP to the Milano Cadorna station. Travel time is only 0H:29M, which is about half the time required for the Malpensa Shuttle (Bus). As you're only interested in sightseeing, IMO it's better to use the Cadorna station rather than Milano Centrale, as it's relatively close to the Duomo, Castello Sforzesco, Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele and the large la Rinascente stores (which have an extensive food court on the top floor which provide a great view of the Duomo). I've never used the Hop On / Hop Off tour Buses in Milan, so can't comment. However, assuming they're similar to Rome or other cities (which I have used), these would probably be a good way to get a good overview of the main sites in a short period of time. The recorded commentary is usually "satisfactory" but not spectacular. Be sure to allow enough time to get back to the station and airport. Happy travels!
I am sure that is what she meant. The spell checker didn't catch it. Take the train in as it puts you closer to the center than the shuttle bus. Have no experience with the Milan hop on/off bus but in general we use the on/off buses for quick overviews of cities when time is short. We will ride one loop and then decided which sites we will have a little extra time to see well.
Another reason to consider the train from the airport relates to a story a recent poster related regarding lost bags after taking the bus (you will not be able to maintain "bag security" on the bus).
I've used hop on hop off buses in some cities, but last month used a regular bus tour in order to see the Last Supper. Our hotel recommended one company Viator and the guide/commentary was worthwhile, tho we didnt spend long enough in any one place ( the Duomo visit was not long enough nor was the Sforzy Castle). We didnt see eveything but we learned more. Recommend you read the section on Milan in Rick's Italy book so you can decide what's important with only one day. The Golden Quadrilateral shopping was like Fifth Avenue, Rodeo Drive or parts of the Magnificent Mile, only better IMHO because Italian style was on dispay in so many windows.
