Milan overnight before flight home

My husband, adult daughter, and I are taking the train from Levanto to Milan on Thursday, May 17, and plan to arrive early afternoon. We fly home from the Linate airport at 11:20 AM on Friday. Would it be best to stay overnight near the Linate airport or stay near the train station? Any suggestions for lodging? How much time should we allow before departure at the airport?

Corly, I flew out of Milan in 2010 and I believe it was the Linate airport. I took the Airport Express Bus which was parked outside the central train station. I imagine I bought a ticket inside the station. I believe it took 45 - 60 minutes to travel to the airport. You can easily google the transportation options and the time involved. If memory serves me, that airport is not that large and I had no difficulty getting checked in and through security quickly. I would think arriving 2 hours before your flight should be sufficient. We are flying out of Linate in September and will be staying in Milan the night before. I really enjoyed walking around Milan so I would suggest spending some time there if that interests you.
It is easy to find a hotel. Go out of the front of the central station through the plaza and look down streets to left and you will see hotels. I stayed at the Hotel Flora in 2010 after being pointed in that direction by fellow train passengers. Go to booking.com and you will see a number of hotels on a map which are close to the train station.

The NO. 73 city bus to Linate, including the Express X73, starts at Piazza San Babila which is just a couple of blocks from the Duomo and a much nicer area to stay than the train station area, if you want to walk. You have a full afternoon and evening to explore Milan, so you could see the Duomo( go up on the roof) the Galleria, walk up Via Dante and to Sforza Castle if you like.
