mike, I'm sure the group here can help with your questions, but a bit more information would be helpful.

Could you advise which areas in the UK you want to travel to? Are you enquiring about lodgings in the town of Salisbury specifically? What other areas do you want to visit, and what sights are you most interested in? As you have friends in Salisbury, I assume they'll be showing you the local sights?

I'd suggest flights to/from London Gatwick using Zoom or Air Transat from Vancouver. However you could use an "open jaw" arrangement from another airport in England, depending on which places you want to see (ie: from Manchester).

It would help to know if your friends will be meeting you at the airport, or how you plan to get to Salisbury? Also, keep in mind that you'll lose the first day in flight and time zone changes, so allow for that in your planning (you'll arrive home on the same day you left, which seems a bit surreal to me).

I'll watch for your next post.

Cheers!

areas in the UK I want to travel are: Portsmouth, Bath , the south seems like a good place to start and before I go might as well see London.

I’m enquiring about lodgings in the town of Salisbury specifically 20 pottersway laverstock and wonder if these are good places to stay one is 20 POTTERS WAY
Laverstock, Salisbury, SP1 1PY

And 94-Milfordhill

sights most interested in: see above

friends in Salisbury, they'll be showing me the local sights at times.

My Friends won't be meeting me at the airport however hopefully at the train station in Salisbury.
Thanks:D

Mike, I'm not familiar with the B&B's you listed, so can't offer any comments on them. The price at the 20 Potter's Way lodging certainly seems reasonable. There were only 3 listings for Salisbury lodgings in Rick's England '07 book, and none were in the Laverstock area. My suggestion would be to ask your friends to check out lodgings in the vicinity of their house, and that way you could walk back & forth to visit. Somewhere close to a Pub or Restaurant would also be nice.

Based on your most recent Post, it appears you'll be visiting London, Bath, Portsmouth and Salisbury within a 3-week time frame. How long were you allocating for each location?

Your statement "sights most interested in: see above" provides cities that you want to see, but DOESN'T include the sights in those locations that you want to see? Could you provide some idea on what you're interested in (especially London, as there are MANY places to see!).

Transportation should be relatively easy in that limited area.

Mike, additional thoughts.

With 3-weeks for travel, you'll have time to see other locations in England. Are there other areas that interest you? I suppose you'll want to keep some time free for visiting your friends, so that will be a factor in how many places you visit.

If you spend your entire visit in the south of England, flying to & from Gatwick is probably your best bet. If you're renting a Car, try to avoid the M25 at peak times ("world's largest car park!").

While in Bath, you might consider a Mad Max tour. The half day tour covers Stonehenge and Lacock, while the full day tour includes the Cotswolds (well worth seeing!). The tour is very interesting and good value!

Given the fact you'll be travelling in August (PEAK time!), IMO it would be a good idea to pre-book Hotels and tours if possible. Like most of Europe, it will likely be very busy at that time of year. Also, what do you want to see in Portsmouth?

Try and find a copy of Rick's England '08 at your local Library.
