Micro Sim cards

Dina, I'm not sure whether PAYG data plans are readily available in Germany? I don't recall any Cell shops in Bacharach, so you'd need to buy the SIM in Frankfurt (which wouldn't be preferable after a long international flight). Hopefully one of the others can answer that question. Is it essential that you have cellular data access, or would access via Wi-Fi in the Hotel suffice? Which Hotel are you staying at? Another option you could consider is to buy a "travel SIM" prior to departure. With that option you'd be able to go directly from your flight to the airport rail station for the local train to Bacharach (note that there are two rail stations in Frankfurt Airport). The only reason I would prefer the micro sim is because I'm not sure if all the hotels we will be staying at offer the wi fi free. I know two of the hotels we will be staying at do, but just not sure of the other three, which includes the Bacharach hotel. I can't order one through the internet now, because I will be leaving in a few days. Oh well, maybe I'll just leave the IPad home.

Pennymarkt (www.pennymarkt.de) has a deal with T-mobile for phone and data SIM cards in Germany (the details are on www.pennymobil.de, but only in German). It cost about €10 to purchase the SIM card, then €2.49 per day for unlimited data use. The price for the SIM (I paid €9,95 in 2009) includes a credit (Guthaben) of $5. It's a prepaid card. You buy a card for some amount of credit. I bought a €20 "card" at the Pennymarkt, and they entered the phone number on a keypad and that added the amount to my account. There is a Pennymarkt in Boppard.
